HALOS-1
The first airframe to be built and flown – Ideally this year – will be a LALE (Low Altitude Long Endurance) platform, aiming to beat the 81 hour endurance world record set by ETH Zurich in 2016. This airframe was the one exhibited at Open Sauce, and has a 15ft wingspan, 216W peak solar production, and an all up weight of ~6lbs.
- Open Sauce!
That’s a wrap! Thanks to everyone that stopped by at Open Sauce this year – It was amazing to share my project with so many talented people. Thanks especially to Neda and Chris for helping wrangle crowds at the booth all weekend – the level of interest exceeded my wildest expectations. This exhibition was the culmination of months of 10 hour days, designing, building and preparing a prototype to show. In the course of this effort, it became evident that a complete spar redesign was needed before I could build a flight ready prototype. Thankfully, I was able to build and present an airframe in it’s skeletal form, which proved more than enough to keep all three of us mobbed all weekend. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and offered your expertise – I will be reaching out to all of you once I’m closer to flight testing! In the meantime, the workshop is going to be over 100 degrees for the next few weeks, so I’ll be spending the time doing a ground-up redesign of the airframe in CAD, so look out for more updates later this week!

- Hello Everyone!
This project has been a long time in the making, and I would like to thank Albion Bowers and Don Stackhouse – without their amazing help, this project would have been impossible. I’ve been working towards this for almost a year now, and we are finally nearing testing. I’ll be updating this page as the current redesign continues, and we get closer to the first flight-ready prototype!
